What is 2016 keeping in store for bathroom decor? Let’s have a quick look at some of the hottest trends we’ll meet in the next few months…..
1. Metals
In 2016, metals are coming back with full strength. Make a clean break with one-dimensional bathroom finishes by pairing nickel, silver and bronze hardware and fixtures. Along with brass, you’ll also find gold, silver, platinum, stainless and brushed steel as popular finishes for your bathroom in 2016. Get a little bold with brass faucets or change the cabinet knobs to a metal finish.
2. Stones and minerals
Another beautiful trend for 2016 will be the use of natural stones and minerals not just as decorative elements, but also as functional items, for example a polished stone sink instead of the typical porcelain.
Also think of stones and minerals as decor items: a stone bench near the bath, or a stool covered in a polished mineral. In Feng Shui, stones represent mountains and their calm, grounded qualities. It’s a good item to keep in the bathroom.
If your budget permits, you might even want to consider a luxurious marble or natural stone tub!
3. Artisan items
The time is over for mass-produced items made who knows where by who knows whom. The growing trend of artisan items is now reaching big proportions, with artisan and handmade online marketplaces helping people market their products all over the world.
Find a handmade bath mat, purchase soap from a local soapmaker (and avoid all the noxious chemicals in mass-produced soaps), get a custom-printed shower curtain; the possibilities are as endless as the people who make handmade things (which is pretty much endless).
A bonus: your focus on artisan items support small business owners and local economies instead of giant, anonymous corporations. Feel good, look good and smell good too!
4. Green plants
Green bathrooms have made an appearance in 2015, but the green plant trend of 2016 will make having greenery in the bathroom a must.
There are many great plants to use in your bathroom but, if you are bolder (or renovating), think about adding a full green feature to the space: green walls and indoor gardens are cool and trendy right now.
5. Dramatic colors
If you’re tired of the white-and-beige bathroom, you’re in luck: this year, dramatic colors are back–especially black.
Black tile and paint will be used in rooms with dramatic lighting and stark contrasts. This also translates to bathrooms using a lot more bright colors, even just in the accessories.
In short, don’t be afraid to indulge in your dramatic, glamorous tastes, especially in the bathroom where it’s unexpected.
6. Floral patterns
Floral isn’t kitsch anymore: it’s actually in!
Big flowers, small flowers, colorful flowers or understated flowers: they’re all trendy this season. Aside from real flowers in your bathroom (which you can totally do if you choose them right), add some floral patterns with your towels, your shower curtain and even a new floral print wallpaper.
7. Pink in all its shades
Embrace your feminine side: pink is in.
Whether it’s bright, flashy hot pink or a more subtle pinky beige, an earthy taupe or cotton candy, it’s all about shades of pink this season.
In the bathroom, don’t be afraid to indulge in pinkiness: pink towels, pink bath math, pink cabinets and window frames, even pink paint or wallpaper. It’s all good.
